They called Britain “Perfidious Albion” (meaning “treacherous Britain”). They compared Britain to Carthage, an ancient city known for trade that eventually fell. They saw France as Rome, a center of ideas and culture that grew strong. After William III, the main reason for fighting between France and Britain changed. It became more about money, trade, and who would control colonies in the Americas and Asia. These were people who wanted to bring back the old royal family (the Stuarts) to the British throne.
His defeat in 1814 was followed by his abdication and exile, but he escaped the following year to begin the Hundred Days. These came to a close with his military disaster at the Battle of Waterloo, facing an Allied force commanded by the Duke of Wellington. The end of the Napoleonic Wars effectively ended the recurrent conflict between France and Britain. The 80 cm team (Lottie B, Harriet L, Lilly S and Olivia S) rode an extremely challenging course and came 4th as a team and qualified for the Plate championships. A full term’s notice in writing to the Head, is required before a pupil is removed from the School, failing which a full term’s fees are payable in lieu. Similar notice is required if there is to be any other change in status e.g. if boarding, music tuition, transport or other extra is to be discontinued, failing which a full term’s fees are payable. Payment both for fees and the previous term’s extras are due on the first day of each term, unless the monthly instalment payment system has been previously agreed. Interest of 3% per annum above the base rate of the School’s bank will be charged on amounts overdue. It should be noted that acceptance of a place constitutes an agreement to pay fees due on or before the first day of each term.
